Unmasking Your Inner Demons
Have you ever found yourself planning to do something you knew you shouldn’t? Spreading gossip you knew was false? Undermining a subordinate’s career path for fear they would take your job? Jealously lying to a friend about her boyfriend’s behavior? Plagiarizing an essay because you were too lazy to do the research? Keeping something that you knew belonged to someone else? Or, simply, failing to do what you knew was right?
These particular situations, and many others that you can conjure up on your own, are examples of exploits promulgated by people’s personal demons. Chris’s new coin, Inner Demon, graphically demonstrates this eternal battle between good and evil.
Mortals are human and therefore have many active inner demons. Some people can control them, others cannot. These inner demons lie, cheat, steal and wreak havoc. They always inflict pain and they constantly morph themselves into whatever their host needs to justify his, or her, bad behavior.
If caught, the demons morph themselves once again. This time it is in order for their host to escape accountability for their vile behavior. The human host proclaims their innocence, their ignorance or explains away the offense as having been done unintentionally, while hypocritically asking for mercy and “understanding”. Demons can be formidable adversaries who not only destroy innocent lives but destroy the host as well.
Some inner demons prompt you to overeat by convincing you that, after a hard day at work, you deserve two hot fudge sundaes or half a jar of peanut butter. Your demon may take the form of a “caring friend”, who has to tell a girlfriend about the suspicion that her boyfriend is cheating on her. Some demons make you unhelpful, defensive, and lazy. Or your demon may become a whining hypochondriac simply to attain the level of attention they deem satisfactory. Some demons give rise to theft as an excuse for attaining “justice.” Some demons addict their hosts to drugs, gambling, or video games while enticing them to ignore work and family obligations. Others simply float below the surface and explode angrily, and inappropriately, when jostled. All demons promulgate contemptuous behavior based on lies.
All of humanity is hard-wired to sense when someone is being dishonest with them. Mankind’s innate instincts tell them when they are being subjected to treachery, whether it is on a personal level or on a communal level. People just know when something's wrong.
No matter what the personal justification for inflicting demonic pain, suffering or sadness on those around you, the result is always the same - mistrust. Mistrust because people always figure out who is truly responsible for the injustice. And once exposed, the resulting mayhem inevitably results in ruining the perpetrator’s reputation. They lose the respect of their family, friends, and co-workers. Eventually, the exposure causes personal self-destruction as everyone runs-for-the-hills to avoid another encounter with a known demon.
No one lives in a vacuum, and the truth always comes out. In fact, it is one of the few guarantees in life, other than death and taxes. And, as a result, the culprit will eventually be held accountable.
Whether the offense warrants communal rejection, the loss of a job, or jail time, the victims never forget, nor do they necessarily forgive. Isolation and rejection are always the outcome. Demons never win, but that doesn’t matter as they are happy to take you with them on their path of destruction.

Ask yourself this…are your demons in check or are they running your life? Are you embracing them or actively rejecting them? Do you do battle with them, as is vividly demonstrated in Chris’s new coin, Inner Demon, or do you simply surrender to them?
You cannot afford to do as Scarlet O’Hara once did and “think about that tomorrow”. You must start today or risk becoming a totally alienated, completely irrelevant and forever dispensable failure!
Chris’s coin, Inner Demon, is a reminder to fight back against your personal demons. If you don’t, when the demons are done with you, they will gleefully move on to their next cooperative host, while leaving your life in shambles.
