The Inherent Nobility of Men: A Spiritual Journey
Men are, by nature, noble creatures. They are unlike any other species on earth. And within their own species, they are also unique as they are unlike both women and children as well.
Men are born to strive for greatness, and if not greatness, they strive to do the best they can at anything that is asked of them.
Men are driven by an inner sense of nobility.
There are many paths to nobility, and interestingly, nearly every race on earth has its own version to which their young men strive. But the common thread among all cultures is that nobility cannot be attained without the divine inspiration of faith through religion. Nobility can only be generated and taught through the grace and love of a divine being.
Chris’s new coin, The Noble Path, memorialises the journey towards nobility that young Buddhist men undertake. There are eight primary practices which the Buddhists embrace while seeking their own personal nobility. These practices include, Right Action; Right Livelihood; Right Diligence; Right Mindfulness; Right Concentration; Right View; Right Thinking and Right Speech, all of which are immortalized on Chris’ dazzling new coin. Within Buddhism, each of these eight categories is subdivided into either wisdom, ethical conduct and/or mental discipline.
Nobility, in many ways, defines men. The magnanimous behavior it spawns truly separates them from all others on earth. Interestingly, despite the prevailing myth, women are not the true romantics, men are. Men’s romanticism is generated by an indescribable sense of love and devotion towards their God, their wives and families and their country. In most instances, it is something that only other men can understand. This is the essence of their nobility and the world reaps the benefits of men’s rock-solid devotion to things that REALLY matter, everyday of the week.
Men define nobility through their deep sense of honor, duty, wisdom, commitment, diligence, ethics, bravery, honesty, decency, morality, fairness and their self-sacrificing generosity.
Men take their noble responsibilities, whether at home, work or within their communities, very seriously. And they are rightfully put-off by frivolity, or inappropriate comedic behavior, when dealing with serious matters. They know the difference between taking the right path and taking the wrong path and they can foresee the disturbing outcome of choosing poorly.
Men don’t laugh or joke during business meetings. They get the job done.
They don’t talk or look around during a church service, especially during a funeral. They pray. Men don’t gossip, eavesdrop, or repeat hearsay. They mind their own business.
Men work towards their highest and best self every day, and they always try to “give-it-their-all”. Men don’t talk nearly as much as they listen because they want to determine the facts of the situation so that they can help solve the problems.
Men are, by nature, problem solvers, not troublemakers.
Noble men don’t seek praise, compliments or accolades for their accomplishments. They do their best, with or without the applause. They don’t expect recognition for a job well-done or added remuneration for their hard work. They do it because they know the outcome will benefit others and so they press on.
Simply put, noble men just try to do what they know is right. This desire stems from their deep understanding of what God expects from them and there is no nobler calling than that.
